The Vigo County Aquatic Center was completed through collaboration between Vigo County School Corporation and the City of Terre Haute Park Board, and is located at Voorhees Park in Terre Haute. The facility replaces the aging pools at Terre Haute North Vigo High School, Terre Haute South Vigo High School and West Vigo High School. In addition to providing an aquatic facility for all three high schools, the facility serves the Terre Haute Torpedoes swim team and became home to the new Indiana State University women’s swimming and diving team during 2016-2017.
This new 30,000 square foot facility includes a 50M x 25 yard swimming pool (with two movable bulkheads), control room, diving well, seating for 350 to 500 spectators, locker rooms, offices, instructional space, a concession stand, therapy pool, and provide MEP support. The main public entrance to the center opens up into a 284 square foot lobby that leads to an elevated spectator seating area.
In addition to the new building, the design called for a new park entrance to create a boulevard drive circles in front of the facility and leads to two parking areas. This new facility was designed to add vibrancy to the area and to create a new destination for Vigo County swim activities.
