Following increased enrollment at West Middle School, Brownsburg Community Schools called on CSO to provide solutions to best serve their students through expanding and renovating the school.
Project Details

Originally opened as Brownsburg Junior High School in 1995, West Middle School has seen several additions and small renovations since opening. In 2020, Brownsburg Community School Corporation determined it was time for an in-depth renovation and addition to West Middle School.
CSO’s design solution emphasized impacts on many different environments in the building including: new entry commons, improved student circulation, expansion of performing arts spaces, creating a large group instruction room, additional café dining space, new kitchen and serving spaces, additional CTE program spaces, cardio room, academic classrooms, and science labs.
The most prominent addition to the building is a new two-story space that clearly defines the entry and also creates spaces for student and event commons. On the interior the primary student corridor connecting the academic classrooms to the rest of the building was widened by relocating classrooms and moving programs into the addition spaces.
The kitchen and serving line were completely reconfigured with new serving stations and circulation with the goal to create a serving area on the same level as what has been accomplished at Brownsburg High Schools recent additions and renovations.
Other improvements included a complete replacement of the existing cooling tower, replacement of boilers, and changing lighting over to LED fixtures amongst other mechanical, electrical and plumbing improvements.
